vFunction Assessment Hub is a Purpose-built modernization assessment platform for decision-makers. It uses AI to analyze and condense data into 3 high-level indicators that allow you to assess, prioritize and drive immediate action on your modernization projects. Let’s see how it works.
When you first install the vFunction Assessment Hub product, you immediately see the full vFunction Platform dashboard. This is where you can manage the entire modernization journey, from primary assessment with this product here, to full refactoring with vFunction Modernization Hub.
In this demo, we’ve installed the vFunction agent on 3 applications, and by expanding the dashboard we can look at them more closely.
In the middle of the screen, we see that each tile represents an installed app, and we can access Assessment Hub insights right away for all of them.
Unlike static assessment tools that provide developers with a lot of data points which are not always actionable, don’t drive modernization, and leave many high-value complex apps out of the project scope, vFunction uses patented analysis and machine learning to provide decision-makers the critical business indicators needed to immediately prioritize apps for modernization.
Let’s click on the View Base Report link for the third app called WD.
vFunction’s algorithms are based on analysis of hundreds of legacy applications and tens of millions of lines of code, which lets us provide insights into how much of every dollar invested in the application goes towards actual innovation, versus how much goes towards managing technical debt and generally keeping the lights on.
In this example, we can see that 36 cents of every dollar goes towards things like new features and customer experience, while 64 cents go towards managing technical debt.
Furthermore, Assessment Hub identifies the top 10 classes that contribute most towards this technical debt. On the right side, you can see a TCO calculation, where the bottom number shows the benefits gained by simply refactoring these top 10 worst offending classes alone.
In the second part of the report, vFunction presents 3 high-level indicators that help you accurately prioritize modernization: Technical Debt, Risk, and Complexity.
The debt index score is a single metric that takes into account risk, complexity, and other factors to help you prioritize your starting point for modernization.
The risk index is correlated to the length of the dependencies. This analyzes how likely a change in one part of the application will affect a seemingly unrelated part of the application downstream.
The complexity index measures the degree to which class dependencies are entangled between themselves, reducing the level of modularity of the code.
We also provide an average of these three metrics across the portfolio of installed applications to further help with the prioritization.
Lastly, vFunction Assessment Hub presents a list of your aging and outdated frameworks to help you prioritize which ones should be addressed first.
Armed with these metrics and insights, vFunction Assessment Hub helps you prioritize your modernization efforts and – with a click of a button – move into the actual semi-automated refactoring of these apps using our vFunction Modernization Hub.
